Nelson-Creston MLA Brittny Anderson announced on May 23 that she intends to run for re-election in the provincial election in October.
In a news release, Anderson stated that her priorities will be health care, the environment, and housing.
Anderson was first elected in 2020 after having served on Nelson City Council and on the board of the Regional District of Central Kootenay.
In the October election, Anderson will be running in the riding of Kootenay Central, which is the Nelson-Creston riding with a new name and the addition of Nakusp, New Denver and Silverton following boundary changes made across the province since the last election.
Nelson-area resident Corinne Mori recently announced that she will run as an independent candidate in Kootenay Central.
In a news release, Mori stated she thinks Kootenay residents are looking for an alternative to status quo politics and that her priorities will be health-care reform, home ownership programs and taxation cuts.
The only other candidate announced so far in Kootenay Central is Nicole Charlwood of the BC Greens. She was also the party’s candidate in the 2020 provincial election.
BC United and the Conservative Party of BC have not yet announced local candidates.
The next B.C. election is scheduled for Oct. 19.
