LETTER: Thumbs down to RDCK rural curbside collection

I will vote “no” to the RDCK curbside organics collection proposal. I reside near the top end of an ancient dirt road, and although it is designated as a public road it is remarkably like an old goat trail. Maintenance of it has proven challenging in every season. My entrance driveway, also dirt, is itself a problem. I am a senior and disabled, existing only because of oxygen 24/7. Energy is virtually non-existent and for me to place waste at the end of the drive is impossible.

But then to have the RDCK suggest that I should first load it in my vehicle and drive it to a non-existent curb and then unload it, surely no further comment is necessary.

My accumulated waste is home sorted then correctly deposited to Nelson Recycle when my grocery shopping is necessary. Aside from the four small nasty plastic bins, this has worked well for me, is routine and will suffice.

RDCK’s environmental concern is honourable. However, there are unexplained yet unknown loose ends. Possibly these contributed to the obvious public misunderstandings, objections, frustrations and formidable questions at the RDCK’s presentations, all of which should be seriously grasped and heeded as warning to each and every involved citizen.

The ultimate and only present solution is to vote “no.”
